Hey everyone! It is that time of the year where more people will be on the road traveling the highways. I wanted to let you know about a new smishing text scam the FBI and IC3 has received a number of complaints from victims who have received the text. It appears it is coming from a State Agency (3 states so far), and they indicate in the text that you “owe money for unpaid tolls”. If you are like me, I travel numerous states and hope that I don’t travel down a toll road. I have my Maps app set to not to use toll roads. The FBI Public Service Announcement “Smishing Scam Regarding Debt for Toll Road Services” will provide you more information about the scam. The Announcement also provides information on how to report the scam.
